Savoring TEXAS BBQ Grill: A Culinary Excursion Followed by Sunset Magic at Gyeongju Wind Farm

Craving Texas barbecue in South Korea? Want to experience the smoky flavors of authentic Texan barbecue while in a foreign land? Well, my recent visit to TEXAS BBQ Grill, located just outside Gyeongju, South Korea, allowed me to do just that. And if you thought the food was a treat, just wait until you hear about the breathtaking adventure that followed – chasing sunsets at the Gyeongju Wind Farm!

The Atmosphere

As my family and I entered TEXAS BBQ Grill, we were welcomed by a clean and bright interior. Surprisingly, we were the only customers there, giving us an intimate dining experience. The atmosphere was casual and down-to-earth, a perfect match for a barbecue joint. The aroma of smoked meat filled the air, reminiscent of the Texas barbecue joints I've visited back home.

The owners were kind and gracious, ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout our visit. Plenty of parking space is available, although I'd recommend having a car to get there, given its somewhat secluded location.

The Food and Beverages

Now, onto the star of the show – the food. We opted for the Smart Platter, designed for two people and priced at 59,000 Korean Won. It included a selection of barbecue staples, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

The 150g of brisket, while decent, was a bit fattier than what I'm accustomed to in Texas. However, the 200g of pulled pork made up for it with a delightful smoky flavor. The real standout was the 250g spare rib, which was incredibly delicious and practically fell off the bone.

The side dishes included baked beans (quite generic), a homemade brioche bun (perfect for making pulled pork sandwiches), and tasty cole slaw. The whole grain mustard sauce, chimichurri sauce, and barbecue sauces were welcome additions that enhanced the overall experience. In fact, the pulled pork left such a good impression that we couldn't resist ordering an extra 200g to take home.

Admittedly, the prices are relatively expensive compared to what you'd pay for Texas barbecue in the United States. However, you have to keep in mind that you're in South Korea, so the cost is understandable.

Service with a Smile

The owners and staff at TEXAS BBQ Grill provided us with a friendly and warm service. Since we were the only customers during our visit, they took great care of us and were attentive to our every need. We even engaged in some pleasant small talk with them, learning about their experiences living in America.

Chasing Sunsets at the Gyeongju Wind Farm

After indulging in a mouthwatering barbecue feast, we decided to embark on an impromptu adventure – visiting the Gyeongju Wind Farm, which is only 7km away. Trust me, it was totally awesome! The wind farm treated us to beautiful sunsets, breathtaking scenery, and good walking trails for relaxation and fresh air.

If you find yourself in the neighborhood and have some extra time to spare, I highly recommend visiting the Gyeongju Wind Farm. You won't regret it. Check it out on Google Maps.

Overall Recommendation

In summary, TEXAS BBQ Grill is a must-visit if you have a hankering for authentic Texas barbecue in South Korea. The quality of the food and service is commendable, and the warm atmosphere makes it a great spot for a cozy meal. However, be prepared to pay more than what you'd expect to pay back in Texas. I'd give it a solid 4/5 stars.

While the restaurant's exterior may appear humble, the quality of the food and service certainly stands out. They even have a large barrel smoker and plenty of wood, proudly proclaiming "TEXAS BBQ."

If you plan to visit, make your way past the Bomun Resort area on Gyeonggam-ro on your way to Gampo, 25km outside of Gyeongju. Here's a helpful Google Maps link to guide you.

In the end, TEXAS BBQ Grill might not be the cheapest option, but it's a fantastic choice for satisfying your Texan barbecue cravings while exploring South Korea. And when you pair it with a visit to the Gyeongju Wind Farm, you're in for an unforgettable experience.
